Singapore Travel Guide

Singapore is a small island city-state known for its clean streets, delicious food, and unique blend of cultures. At TravelPulse, we think Singapore is particularly special because of its unique blend of cultures. It’s home to a diverse population of Chinese, Malay, and Indian descent. This diversity is reflected in the city’s food, festivals, and architecture.

Singapore’s history as a British colony and its current status as a global financial center contribute to its unique blend of cultures.

One of our top tips for getting around Singapore is to use the city’s public transportation system. Singapore has an efficient and reliable network of buses and trains known as the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. The MRT system is clean, safe, and runs on time, and it’s the quickest way to get around the city.

It’s a good idea to purchase an EZ-Link card. You can use this contactless smart card on buses and trains, as well as at some vending machines and car parks. You can buy one of these cards at MRT stations and 7-Eleven convenience stores. It eliminates the need to buy individual tickets for each trip.

If you prefer to explore the city on foot, you’ll be happy to know that Singapore is a very walkable city. Taking a stroll through the streets can be a great way to discover the city’s hidden gems.

Important Things to Know

Currency

The currency in Singapore is the Singapore Dollar (SGD). It is denoted by the symbol “S$”.

It’s a good idea for travelers to have some Singapore Dollars on hand for small purchases and tips. Not all places may accept credit cards or foreign currency.

National Languages

The official languages in Singapore are English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil.

English is widely spoken and understood, making it easy for visitors to communicate with locals and navigate the city. Most street signs, public transportation announcements, and official documents are in English, and many locals are fluent in the language.

Mandarin is also widely spoken, especially among the Chinese population. Many Chinese-owned businesses may have Mandarin-speaking staff.

Climate And Weather

Singapore has a tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures. It is generally hot and sunny all year round, with occasional thunderstorms.

We made sure to stay hydrated and took some sunscreen and an umbrella with us when we went outside our hotel in Singapore.

Marina Bay

Out of all the places we visited in Singapore, Marina Bay stands out as our favorite. This area is situated in the heart of the city. It offers all travelers a wide range of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to budget-friendly options.

This area is home to some of Singapore's most iconic attractions, including the Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion, and the Gardens by the Bay. Additionally, it is within walking distance of many shopping centers and restaurants, making it easy for us to explore the city on foot.

Clarke Quay

In our opinion, Clarke Quay is the best area if you’re looking for a good nightlife scene. It’s the perfect spot for travelers who want to experience Singapore's diverse selection of bars and pubs. If you prefer live music, Clarke Quay has a number of venues that showcase local and international acts.

Clarke Quay also boasts several rooftop bars that offer panoramic views of the city. With so many options for food and drink, from street food stalls to upscale restaurants, this is the perfect place to spend an evening (or a few) in Singapore.
