Global tour leader TTC Tour Brands unveiled its sustainability goals and strategy in their second TTC Impact Report earlier this year. The report measures 11 goals anchored to the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, designed to address TTC Tour Brands impact on the planet, its people and wildlife.

The annual report sets a precedent on greater transparency and accountability on sustainability in travel and tourism.

At the cornerstone of its sustainability tourism goals, is next zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2050 and to include at least one immersive impact experience known as MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences across 50% of the brands’ itineraries by 2025.

These goals set a precedent on greater transparency and accountability on sustainability in travel and tourism.

“Decarbonization is the single most important thing we can do in the fight against climate change. As a company dedicated to discovering the world, our neighbors and the local wildlife that bring it to life, we’re deeply committed to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, if not sooner,” said Melissa DaSilva, President of TTC Tour Brands, North America.

“From the introduction of TTC’s Carbon Fund which makes it possible for our business to reduce our carbon emissions more quickly. Some examples of this in practice include Trafalgar coaches powered by solar panels that extend the life of the coach’s battery, to Contiki’s Chateau powered 100% by renewable energy. We are aggressively moving forward towards our sustainability targets and play our part on the global transition towards low carbon.”

A core initiative of TTC Tour Brands’ sustainability strategy is the MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience program. MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences are immersive impact experiences carefully designed to benefit a destination, educate travelers, and advance the United Nations Global Goals. In 2022, TTC Tour Brands, along with sister brands under TTC, included at least one MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience on 62% of itineraries, encompassing nearly 600 experiences across the world, and surpassing its goal of 50%. For example, travellers can explore the Pink City of Jaipur on a rickshaw ride with Luxury Gold, taste sustainable organic cider on a farmstead in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with Costsaver or learn about the value of the buffalo to the survival of First Nations people from a Cree guide in Banff with Trafalgar.

“While we’re immensely proud of the impact we achieved in 2022, we’re equally aware of the work that remains ahead of us. The sector needs to avoid the many distractions that are out there, and prioritize real change and seek measurable impact, which is exactly what we are focused on,” says Shannon Guihan, The Travel Corporation’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of TreadRight.

The Travel Corporation’s (TTC) second official Impact Report details the progress of its 41 award-winning brands against the 11 measurable goals of How We Tread Right, (HWTR) TTC’s 5-year sustainability strategy. View the comprehensive 2022 TTC Impact Report here.
