Air Canada has received Gold Level certification in Mental Health at Work from Excellence Canada, highlighting the airline's commitment to employee well-being and mental health support. The certification recognizes the company's comprehensive approach to creating a workplace culture that prioritizes mental health awareness and support services.
Under the leadership of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jim Chung, the airline has implemented several innovative programs through its "Unlock the Best in You" (UBY) initiative. A notable achievement is the Mental Health First Aid program, launched in 2022, which has already certified over 900 employees to provide peer support during challenging times.
The airline's mental health strategy includes unlimited confidential counseling services for Canadian-based employees and their families, along with convenient telemedicine access. Additional programs include Mental Health 360 workshops and a Mental Health Champions program. The company has also established dedicated resource centers in Montreal and Toronto where employees can seek guidance on available mental health services.
Supporting physical wellness alongside mental health, Air Canada provides wellness centers with exercise facilities in Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg. This comprehensive approach to employee well-being has earned the airline multiple recognitions, including the Best Mental Health Program award at the 2024 InsideOut awards.
The Excellence Canada certification, part of the prestigious Canada Awards for Excellence program established in 1984, validates Air Canada's progressive implementation of mental health initiatives and successful engagement of stakeholders across the organization.
