Expedia Group is making strides in its efforts to be a full trip platform for travel advisors. The company announced today two new product updates which will make booking activities on its platforms faster and with more relevant suggestions.
“77% of travellers want to book their travel on one platform according to our latest Expedia Group research, Full Trip Planning,” says Stephen Cheng, VP, Expedia Group B2B. “Expanding our Rapid API ecosystem to include activities, gives our partners the products and tools they need to better serve travellers that want to book all trip elements in one place”.
Under Expedia’s Rapid Activities API, the Rapid API ecosystem expands beyond lodging. The Activities API gives partners faster time to market with a pre-curated supply to must-see attractions, museums, tours and experiences.
It is launching in beta for selected partners now, with the intention to be widely available in early 2027. It enables partners to build fully customized, end-to-end shopping and booking experiences on top of Expedia Group’s globally curated inventory.
“Historically, we believed travellers would pick a destination first, then search for flights and a hotel and then eventually an activity. We believe today the experience is the priority and that the booking order is changing," says beta partner Global Hotel Card CEO Peter Friend. “Activities aren’t an afterthought anymore. Booking the activity is increasingly becoming the starting point, and then travellers book the flight and hotel around them..”
Also being introduced in beta for a limited number of UK travel agencies are curated Tiqets activities, via Expedia TAAP (Travel Agent Affiliate Program). The experience is designed to simplify activity discovery and support faster, more relevant recommendations for travellers.
Beta partner Flights Guru Commercial Manager Liam Brophy is excited for the new capabilities, “Helping travellers discover the right experiences that complement a hotel or flight booking is an important part of delivering exceptional service, and this capability makes that process faster and more intuitive for our sales staff. It allows us to spend less time searching, more time focusing on travellers,” he says.
Expedia provided a list of FAQs to help advisors understand the new products, so they will be ready once they are available widely.
