Gen Z is now aged 18-28, entering the workforce in full and ready to travel for work. An new study from American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) entitled "Meet Tomorrow’s Business Travellers", is highlighting how eager they are to take business trips, while showing where there is ample room to improve their experiences.

A full 70% of the Gen Z cohort surveyed say they “look forward to work trips.” However, the age group also experienced a high degree of stress and travel disruptions and were the least likely (63%) to understand their employer’s duty of care.

While clearing up communication between young workers and their employers is beyond the scope for travel advisors, the study does show some places where an advisor could be of great help. The report states that the Gen Z travellers were the ones most likely to face travel disruptions (45%).

Seven in ten travellers want access to human support when facing disruptions. While most (60%) also indicated they would use automated solutions, the high rate of preference for a human shows where travel advisors can offer empathetic support.

Gen Z have a reputation as “digital-natives” but the study showed that Gen Z is less comfortable using generative AI for travel tasks than Millennials — 60% vs. 66% for flight booking. The report states that the “same pattern holds for expense reports and restaurant reservations, suggesting comfort with AI may be tied more to workplace experience than age.”

Further, the report shows the need for travel advisors to “tailor support and communication strategies to a changing workforce.” This is particularly important as Gen Z move into corporate roles as decision-makers as they seek smarter tech and human support.

Looking ahead, 55% of respondents expect to travel more for work in five years than they do today, and two-thirds believe it will get easier. But that optimism comes with expectations: younger travellers want more than just logistics — they want to feel confident, cared for, and connected.
