Devossion by Live Aqua, the newest resort offering from
Grupo Posadas, is a sophisticated, upscale property located just steps from
bustling Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen.
The adults-only, all-inclusive resort sits on almost 7
beachfront acres about 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport. Its prime
location means guests are just a few minutes' walk from Playa del Carmen and
its array of shops, restaurants and nightclubs, as well as proximity to theme
parks, archeological sites, and water-filled sinkholes called cenotes.
The property celebrated its official grand opening on
Feb. 14 after being open for several months.
The striking resort, which formerly bore the Grand
Hyatt brand, is compact enough to walk between the guest rooms, the three
infinity pools, the 700-foot white-sand beach, and the dozen dining and
drinking spots. All are included, except the à la carte Carnivore Prime
Steakhouse, which carries a service charge based on a percentage of the bill;
reservations are recommended.
Guest Accommodations
The resort has 314 guest rooms and suites, including
175 ocean-view suites and 67 swim-up suites. Top suites include access to a
private lounge with drinks and snacks, as well as a private balcony.
I stayed in Room 107, a swim-up suite that was a
massive 527 square feet and opened onto a palm-covered patio facing a winding
pool, offering privacy. The room was thoughtfully equipped with a roomy walk-in
shower with a rainfall showerhead, a coffeemaker, robes and slippers, a makeup
vanity, a hairdryer, an LCD smart TV, and a mini-bar with beer, soft drinks,
and snacks.

Variety of Dining
The array of dining options was impressive. Guests can
choose from a casual Mexican buffet, Asian cuisine, an Italian trattoria,
24-hour room service, and a coffee bar/deli serving Starbucks drinks, pastries
and small sandwiches. Pop-ups in the pool area might feature sangria one day
and cold brew coffee the next.
Activities at the resort include pottery workshops
poolside (a sangria pop-up bar fueled our creativity!), mixology and cooking
classes, and more. A beach club with DJs is under construction.
The property welcomes groups and weddings with lovely
outdoor gathering spots and a ballroom. Themed dinners, such as a Frida
Kahlo-inspired dinner set in a mangrove, can be arranged.
The Cenote Spa features a pool in a man-made cenote, a
sinkhole with clear, swimmable water found throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, as
well as eight treatment rooms, daily beachfront yoga and Mayan rituals.
