The MICHELIN Keys have been announced for 2025, and there are five new one key properties in Canada.

Now in its second year in Canada, the program has awarded keys to 38 properties here. Quebec and Ontario are heavily represented, with hotels in ski resorts also making a solid showing.

The five newest additions to the list are all Fairmont Hotels with the exception of the Bow Lodge in Lake Louise. The other four are the Fairmont MacDonald in Edmonton, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in Charlevoix, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City, and the Fairmont Château Laurier (specifically the Gold Experience) in Ottawa.

When Michelin expanded from rating restaurants to hotels, it set out a tiered system, similar to the stars in its restaurant guide. One key denotes “a very special stay,”  two keys means “an exceptional stay” and three key properties are “an extraordinary stay.”

Three Key Properties in Canada

The two three key properties are each lavish and remote, one standing on each end of the country. According to Michelin, a hotel in this category is “the ultimate in comfort and service, style and elegance. It is one of the world's most remarkable and extraordinary stays and a destination for the trip of a lifetime.”

Here, the honour is reserved for:

  • Fogo Island Inn (Joe Batt's Arm, NL)
  • Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge (Tofino, BC)
