Canadians travelling to the Dominican Republic as tourists have received a temporary exemption to the country’s general rule that a passport must be valid for at least six months following date of entry.

An “exceptional measure” states that citizens of the European Union, England, Canada, U.S., Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador, who enter the Dominican Republic, exclusively for tourist purposes, are authorized to do so with their valid and in force passports.
This measure was implemented by Dominican authorities as of June 1, 2024 and remains in force until November 30, 2024.
While this may be good news for some travellers, clients should be made aware that travelling with a passport with less than six month of validity remaining is not a good idea.
