Close your eyes and envision birds chirping as the tropical breeze gently rustles the swaying palm trees and the warmth of the Caribbean sun kisses your skin. The island of Martinique invites you to experience just such a daydream and rediscover your love for nature. With nearly 30 hiking trails showcasing a diverse range of beautiful endemic flora and fauna, there’s something for adventurers of all experience levels to enjoy on this verdant, volcanic island.

Martinique is a masterpiece of nature, where biodiversity, culture and heritage blend seamlessly and magically. Among many options that take one through the forest, mountains, and seaside here are some of the top places to hike in Martinique:

Reserve Naturelle De La Caravelle: This nature reserve, part of the Martinique Regional Natural Park, is a must-visit. Protected since 1976, the Caravelle Peninsula is a vast land full of banana and sugar cane plantations, covering 378 hectares. Boasting gorgeous dark aquatic hues, stroll along the beaches in the quiet shelter of the coves. Keep your eyes open during your hike: you can observe many plant species and birds typical of the Lesser Antilles.

Foret De Montravail: Located in the commune of Sainte-Luce, this 70-hectare forest is unique in this part of Martinique. Offering a humid forest atmosphere away from the coast's heat, partake in picnics, stop at rest areas, and discover a network of loop trails and watercourses. A little fun fact: since June 2015, tourists have loved visiting here due to the monumental wooden sculptures that adorn the path.

Hiking on Mount Pelee

Mount Pelée: Climb a legendary volcano and the island's highest peak. More than just a simple hike in Saint Pierre, you can choose from three trails that wrap around the mountain: L’Aileron, the Grand Savane Trail, or the Morne Macouba (no hyphen) Trail via Grand Riviere. Make sure you stretch and pack water and snacks, but prepare to take in breathtaking scenery on a clear day. We suggest starting early in the morning to increase your chances of having a clear sky at the summit.

Embark on an adventure like no other and unlock the wonders of Martinique through its magical trails. Let Martinique’s enchanting landscapes call out to your inner explorer, guiding you through lush forests, majestic mountains, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
