MSC Cruises Building Four New Ships, With Option to Add Two More

MSC Cruises is building at least four new cruise ships, with the option to build two more in the future.

The brand announced its new agreement with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft, which will construct the vessels on the line’s “New Frontier” platform—a new class of ships.

The order is for four new ships with two additional options, securing full capacity at the shipyard into the next decade.

The 180,000-gross-ton vessels will be delivered each year starting in 2030. They will be able to accommodate up to 5,400 passengers.

“Together, we will create vessels that redefine the cruise experience while preserving the craftsmanship that keeps Germany at the forefront of maritime engineering,” says Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Cruises.

"The New Frontier class will enable us to design new and exclusive itineraries, offer exceptional guest experience and will feature next-generation environmental technologies that will advance our net-zero 2050 commitment," Vago continued.
