Cross border traffic on WestJet will be noticeably less over the summer than was originally planned. Aviation websites are reporting the Calgary-based airline is reducing its summer flights to the U.S. by a third, when measured by Available Seat Miles. The hardest hit airports by the cancelled routes are Edmonton International (YEG) and Vancouver International (YVR), with multiple routes no longer appearing in the schedule, while Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Kelowna (YLW), Winnipeg (YWG) and the hub at Calgary International (YYC) will each see smaller reductions.

As reported by Aviation A2Z, 15 transborder routes that had previously been submitted to aviation analytics sites like Cirium and OAG are no longer appearing on lists of scheduled flights for summer 2026. Note that several of these services never reached operational launch despite appearing in early planning schedules.

The routes that are no longer scheduled are:

  • Vancouver (YVR)-Boston (BOS)
  • Vancouver (YVR)-Nashville (BNA)
  • Vancouver (YVR)-Orlando (MCO)
  • Vancouver (YVR)-San Diego (SAN)
  • Vancouver (YVR)-San Francisco (SFO)
  • Edmonton (YEG)-Atlanta (ATL)
  • Edmonton (YEG)-Chicago (ORD)
  • Edmonton (YEG)-Seattle (SEA)
  • Edmonton (YEG)-San Francisco (SFO)
  • Toronto (YYZ)-Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Toronto (YYZ)-Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Winnipeg (YWG)-Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Winnipeg (YWG)-Nashville (BNA)
  • Calgary (YYC)-Raleigh-Durham (RDU)
  • Kelowna (YLW)-Seattle (SEA)

While the majority of the routes still have non-stop service with competitor airlines, the change will mean, for the time being, there are no direct routes operating between Calgary and Raleigh-Durham;  Edmonton and Boston and San Diego; nor Winnipeg and Nashville.

In the meantime, WestJet has announced four new domestic routes for the summer season. More changes are likely as airlines evaluate and reassess where to best serve passengers over the coming season.
