It will be easier for Canadians craving a little bit of Jamaica’s rich culture and sunny beaches to get there this winter thanks to an increasing number of flights this winter.
Both Air Canada and Porter are adding flights into Montego Bay for the winter sun season this year. Air Canada announced two new direct flights from the Prairies, flying from Edmonton and Winnipeg.
Air Canada will operate nonstop service between Edmonton and Montego Bay every day of the week from Dec. 7, 2026 through April 4, 2027.
The airline is also launching nonstop service between Winnipeg and Montego Bay, operating on Sundays and Mondays from Dec. 7, 2026 through April 5, 2027.
Porter is also leaning into Jamaica, with three new flights into the gateway at Montego Bay Sangster International. The airline plans to launch nonstop flights from Toronto Pearson International Airport, Ottawa International Airport, and Hamilton International Airport.
The season kicks off with Toronto service, which begins on Nov. 23, with flights operating five times weekly. Ottawa-Montego Bay flights launch on Nov. 25, with twice-weekly service, while Hamilton joins the network on Dec. 20, also operating twice weekly.
Ontario travellers hoping to avoid Pearson will want to take note of the Hamilton option, as Porter will be the only airline flying this route.
The Jamaica flights are just part of Porter’s sun strategy for this winter. The carrier plans to operate nearly 5,000 flights to sun destinations during the upcoming winter season, representing an increase of more than 150 percent compared to the previous year.
According to The Caribbean Journal, some of this surge in Jamaica flights can be attributed to continuing flight cancellations and the crisis in Cuba. As tourism fails, airlines are redistributing aircraft to other Caribbean destinations. Jamaica continues to be a popular spot for vacationing Canadians, with Montego Bay being the primary tourist destination for many visitors.
