The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show that Canada’s eight largest international airports were busy places to be last month.

According to data from Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), 5.8 million travellers passed through security screening— a 3.6 percent increase over July 2024 and a steep 7.8 percent increase from pre-pandemic July 2019.

The biggest percentage increase in July 2025 was travellers heading to international destinations other than the U.S. (both Canadians travelling abroad and visitors to Canada returning home. 1.6 million passengers were screened for international flights, which is up 9.4 percent year over year. International traffic was significantly higher (12.3 percent) than the pre-pandemic level recorded in July 2019.

The next biggest jump was domestic passenger traffic at 2.8 million in July 2025, 7.3 percent higher than in July 2024 and 9.4 percent higher than the passenger counts recorded in July 2019.
