Air Passengers Paying More for Checked Bags

If it feels like deja vu, you’re not wrong. After increasing baggage fees in September 2025, WestJet is again hiking fees. It mirrors a similar hike announced by Air Canada last week. 

According to CBC News, WestJet stated that the additional fees are following industry trends due to "impacts from current global conditions." 

As previous, the prices are based on the type of fare a passenger has booked (ultra basic has the most expensive fees), where they are travelling to, and when they pay for the bag: prepay, self check-in or at the counter with an agent.
