Air Canada and ITA Airways have announced a new codeshare agreement aimed at enhancing travel options between Canada and Italy, while extending access to destinations across four continents.
The agreement, which takes effect for travel beginning July 21, will allow both airlines to place their flight codes on select routes operated by the other carrier.
For Air Canada passengers, this means connections beyond Rome-Fiumicino to ten cities in Italy, Africa, the Middle East and Albania.
ITA Airways customers arriving in Toronto will be able to connect to ten Canadian and U.S. destinations.
“We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with ITA Airways through our new codeshare agreement that complements our robust network to Italy,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo at Air Canada.

“This deepening of ties will allow customers travelling on Air Canada to Rome-Fiumicino to conveniently book and seamlessly connect to ten popular destinations across Italy, Africa, Israel and Albania.”
Under the codeshare, Air Canada will add its AC code to ITA-operated flights from Rome to Lamezia Terme, Palermo, Catania, Florence, Bari, Cairo, Tunis*, Algiers*, Tirana, and Tel Aviv (the latter currently suspended).
ITA Airways will place its AZ code on Air Canada flights from Toronto to Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, St. John’s, and to U.S. destinations including Boston, Orlando, Dallas, and Fort Lauderdale.

“The codeshare agreement with Air Canada is a great step forward for our growth strategy,” said Joerg Eberhart, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of ITA Airways.
“This partnership improves connectivity for our passengers traveling between Italy and North America, our first market beyond Italy, serving both leisure and business travelers. Moreover, it enables us to offer seamless connections for passengers of Italian origin residing in Canada and the United States.”
Both airlines are working to enable reciprocal earning and redemption of loyalty points through Aeroplan and Volare.
ITA Airways is also preparing to join Star Alliance by early 2026.

The new codeshare complements Air Canada’s growing footprint in Italy, which includes up to 39 weekly flights this summer to Rome, Milan, Venice and Naples.
The airline also recently added a new Montreal–Naples route and offers onward rail connections through Trenitalia to 30 cities across Italy.
ITA Airways, meanwhile, is operating 59 destinations during the summer season, with 16 intercontinental and 27 international routes. The airline also offers seasonal service to Mediterranean hotspots and has expanded its global reach through codeshare agreements with five Lufthansa Group carriers.
According to a press release, routes to/from Tunis and Algiers remain subject to government approval.
