Travellers in Ontario may soon be able to enjoy a morning glass of champagne. Or maybe something stronger.
Canadian Press reports that a bill tabled Monday in the Ontario legislature would allow Ontario airport restaurants, bars (and presumably airline lounges) to serve alchol 24 hours a day.
The move would be hugely popular with Canadians who want to enjoy a drink in the morning, and with international travellers who arrive at all hours of the day and want to unwind with a glass of wine or some other alcoholic drink.
Airport bars and restaurants currently are not allowed to sell booze between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m.
The government said the move to allow 24-hour alcohol service in airports would bring Ontario in line with rules elsewhere.
"I think it just speaks to the general process of our government trying to be open for business and ensuring our regulations are modern and compliant," said Prabmeet Sarkaria, the associate minister of small business and red tape reduction.
CP says the bill also would allow Ontario residents to bring home as much booze as they want from other provinces, an issue that's been a sticking point for Canadians who like to purchase British Columbia wines or other products while on holidays and transport them over provincial borders.
