Travel Leaders Network says it is taking steps to ensure that its North American members will qualify for a new Norwegian Cruise Line initiative that will pay travel advisors a commission on non-commissionable fares (NCFs).
The cruise line recently announced a plan to offer commission on NCFs for reservations made outside of final payment (at least 120 days prior to sailing). The program will launch January 1, 2023 for sailings departing May 1, 2023 and forward. To qualify, travel advisors must submit a marketing plan through Norwegian Central by December 31, 2022.
"This is a breakthrough move by Norwegian Cruise Line," said Roger Block, President, Travel Leaders Network. "We are thrilled that NCL is recognizing the important role travel advisors play in the success of their business and we are prepared to help our advisors take full advantage of this incredible opportunity."
Norwegian is the first major contemporary cruise line to offer such compensation. In announcing the program, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEL Frank Del Rio said it could cost upwards of $20 million. The cruise line hopes that investment will focus trade sales efforts and allow it to cut down its advertising budget - creating a win-win situation.
Travel Leaders Network says it will provide North American members with sample marketing tactics so that they can choose from a menu of options, selecting the ones that work best for them. The suggestions will be sent to members in about two weeks, the company says.
"At Travel Leaders Network, we have a thorough understanding of each of our members' business models, which also vary by geographic location," continued Block. "Our options will provide topics and items that members can tweak and implement into their own marketing plans for NCL. We fully support that members will proactively market NCL now that this profitable benefit has been extended."
