The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has issued Immediate Suspension Orders to World Travel Inc., a Toronto-based travel agency, and Amerigo Tours and Travel Inc., a wholesaler based in Ottawa.
"It is alleged that World Travel Inc. has not been financially responsible in the way it conducts business, including the use of consumer funds," TICO said in a press release. "There are reasons to believe that World Travel Inc. will not conduct business in accordance with Ontario's Travel Industry Act, 2002."
The company has been ordered to cease all travel sales and counselling activity immediately. TICO has also issued a Notice of Proposal to revoke World Travel's registration.
TICO says it is alleged that Amerigo Tours and Travel Inc. has been operating without a Supervisor/Manager, as required by Ontario's Travel Industry Act, 2002. As with World Travel Inc., Amerigo Tours and Travel Inc. has been told to cease all travel sales and counselling activity immediately and TICO has also issued a Notice of Proposal to revoke Amerigo's registration.
Both companies are entitled to a hearing by the Licence Appeal Tribunal about the proposals to revoke their registration.
