CroisiEurope and 5Continents recently hosted two groups of Canadian travel advisors on a barge cruise through the Alsace region of France.
The first group, made up of English-speakers, was accompanied by 5Continents Western Canada BDM Tammy Oliver. The following week, the tour played host to a group of French speaking advisors.

The FAM featured several extraordinary experiences, including a panoramic canal tour of Strasbourg, (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Antzwiller Inclined Plane, a glass blowing demonstration at Crystal Lehrer, a Saverne walking tour and the Chateau de Haut-barr, tour and wine-tasting at Vins d’Alsace Domaine Bohr, a private dinner at La Marne to experience authentic Tartes Flambees and a visit to the Maison du Kochersberg Museum for a feel of Alsace traditions.
The trip was designed to highlight how barge cruising is ideal for small groups or a special interest tour.
Advisors were impressed with the offering and are excited to sell it. Wendy Weir from Farmstead Travel commented that the barge experience was like an “upscale houseboat” perfect for a group of friends, a family vacation, or a corporate retreat. The French cuisine was also notable. “The food is amazing — it’s like going to a friend’s house for dinner, a French friend who happens to be a Michelin-star chef, serving 4-course lunches,” she said, while adding: “The excursions are off the beaten path, un-touristed, and customizable, offering a truly authentic experience.
