Sophisticated & Serene: Adults-Only Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

With all of the ups and downs over the last few years, agents can be forgiven for feeling a little weary for booking new properties. A lot has changed in many sun destinations as we emerge from the pandemic; there are new properties, some have closed and there are some supply issues in certain destinations for example.

Here's the first in our two-part series as we take a look at what you need to know about the new Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya.

This is a brand-new hotel - it opened in December 2022 and for reference, it's the old Secrets Capri. The property is surrounded by lush mangroves, with easy access to Cancun International Airport and only 10 kilometres from Playa del Carmen.

The resort has 291 rooms and 12 room categories that include 40 suites with a swim-up and 6 suites that have a plunge pool. It's horseshoe-shaped, with suites offering an ocean or resort view (inside suites) or a tropical view that overlooks the neighbouring mangroves (outside suites). The 6 suites with the plunge pools are oceanfront, situated at the two "ends of the horseshoe".

Since it's a smaller hotel, there's more of a boutique vibe to it which makes it an excellent choice for romantic getaways or reconnecting with friends. There's only one pool on site, which is in the centre and overlooks the ocean with a hot tub near by. There are 9 bars and restaurants and many activities such as water aerobics and sports, live performances in their theatre and free cocktail making lessons.

Rooms are spacious and with a neutral colour palette, very soothing. Showers are enclosed on one side with a sliding barn door into the bedroom for privacy, and room service is included and available 24/7.

The Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya can accommodate weddings up to 150 guests. Reception options include on the beach or on the rooftop of beachfront restaurant Lola on the Beach. TravelPulse Canada experienced a private event on the rooftop, and it did not disappoint - it would be a perfect setting for a special event.

The property offers several venues for meetings and conferences, with more than 6,000 square feet of modern facilities. There's also the Zen Spa which features an open-air hydrotherapy room to really make guests feel one with nature.

Tips for clients:

Try the churros! They're not there every day, but when they are … wow. Located just outside the coffee shop on the main floor, they are made fresh to order at a little cart.

The fish tacos, ceviche and spicy margaritas at Lola's are amazing. We went twice in two days they were that good! The ceviche changes daily as it's a fresh catch.
