The Islands of the Bahamas held their annual event for tour operators and media at the Omni King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto on Thursday afternoon.

Ellison "Tommy" Thompson, Deputy Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, HON. Dionisio D'Aguilar, The Bahamas Minister of Tourism and Aviation, Joy Jibrilu, Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation and Paul A. Strachan Sr. Director, Canada Bahamas Ministry Of Tourism were in attendance.

New Developments

The Bahamas, comprised of 16 main islands, plus hundreds of islets and cays, was fortunate to have come through the 2017 hurricane season without impact to the country's primary tourism product: airports, cruise ports, hotels, attractions and marinas. The Bahamas re-opened quickly after Hurricanes Irma and Maria and continue to welcome guests for the escape of a lifetime.

Joy Jibrilu, Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, told the crowd of tour operators and media, about the many new developments across all the islands, including Exuma and The Out Island of Eleuthera which is in the spotlight.

Visitation to the Islands is up nearly a quarter percent, something the Tourism team attributes to solid marketing plan for Canadians.

The destination offers an easily accessible tropical getaway and provides convenience for travellers with preclearance through U.S. customs and immigration, and the Bahamian dollar is on par.
