Croatia Travel Guide

Croatia features an impressive coastline nestled between the walls of ancient ruins and towns. It also boasts thousands of smaller islands.

No wonder this gem of a country is known as Central Europe’s Riviera. But when visiting this country, you might need a few tips to make the best of the pebbled beaches and ancient history.

Check out this Croatia travel guide for all the information you need and more.

If you’re not visiting Croatia's coastal regions, it’s easy to travel by train or bus.

There are two types of trains, a slower one that stops at every station and a faster intercity train. The intercity train is slightly more expensive, though.

Buses are also a great way to get around unless you’re visiting rural areas where bus travel is rare, and they often don’t run over the weekends.

Remember to plan ahead as you’ll need a ticket before boarding the bus, and buses frequently run during the peak hours of early morning and early afternoon to serve the locals’ needs.

If you want to do island hopping, you must use a ferry. Luckily, there are many ferries to serve this exact need. We also enjoyed that most ferries provide a kiosk with snacks and drinks on board.

Climate And Weather

Mild temperatures and longer days characterize the summer months in Croatia. But the weather in Croatia may differ depending on where you are.

For example, the coastal region averages between 26-30°C during the summer months but drops to 15-20°C in the mountain regions. In the winter, the mountain region averages -5-0°C, whereas the coastal region averages around 5-10°C.

We love this country for its Mediterranean weather, where you can expect warm and dry summers and cold, rainy winters.

We recommend traveling to Croatia during the summer months (June to September) when the weather’s at its most pleasant.

If you aren’t a fan of the heat, visit during the cooler months of April, May, and October, which still provide an excellent opportunity for outdoor activities in a slightly cooler climate.

If you visit during the winter months, we highly recommend visiting the cities for a more relaxed atmosphere during the off-season.
