British Virgin Islands Travel Guide

A treasure trove of tropical escapes, the British Virgin Islands is a paradise for travelers seeking pristine beaches and relaxation.

Whether you are enjoying one island or traveling between several islands, you will not be short of places to discover.

How you get around the British Virgin Islands depends on where you need to get to. If you are traveling around one island, taxis are easily accessible, and can usually get assistance with booking one from your accommodation.

If you plan to travel around the island quite a lot during your stay, you can also look into renting a car. It is easy to drive on these roads, and it will work out cheaper than using taxis several times a day.

To get between islands, the most popular form of transport is a ferry. This is an efficient and affordable way to get around. But, if you want to spend a little more for privacy, you can also opt for a private water taxi.

The most popular tourist season in the British Virgin Islands is the winter period, from November to around February, as this is the season with the most comfortable weather.

However, if you want to beat the crowds, we find it is best to visit between March and June. You will also notice travel and accommodation rates are much lower during this time.

From June to November there is a slight increase in rainfall and it becomes the hurricane season, so be sure to check weather forecasts if you’re looking to travel then.

  • Virgin Gorda. The third largest island in the British Virgin Islands is Virgin Gorda -  a paradise with bright blue water, rolling green hills, and pockets of nature to discover.

Our biggest highlight on this island is the Virgin Gorda Baths. These are characterized by large boulders sitting on the shore of the beach, which form caves and pools that you can spend hours exploring.

  • Jost Van Dyke. A relatively smaller island, Jost Van Dyke is a haven of pristine beaches and a vibrant atmosphere.

We cannot visit without a dip in the Bubbly Pool, snorkeling through the marvelous reefs, and grabbing a cocktail and delicious local food at Foxy’s Bar.

  • Tortola. The hub of the British Virgin Islands is Tortola, the largest and most inhabited island in the region.

With unspoiled beaches, phenomenal coral reefs, and picturesque natural landscapes, paired with shops and restaurants that give visitors a taste of the local culture, we think it is a must-stop when visiting the British Virgin Islands.
