National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is expanding beyond Europe's coastal waters with the introduction of two new eight-day river cruises launching in 2026. The expeditions will sail aboard Connect, a brand-new vessel designed with cutting-edge technology and sustainability in mind.

The two inaugural itineraries include Holland and Belgium: Medieval History and Scenic Waterways, and Rhine River: Castles, Culture and Culinary Delights. These voyages will emphasise Europe's rich history, culture and cuisine as guests travel from one historic riverfront city to the next.

Bill Robison, Expedition Developer, explains that while the company's coastal voyages focus on wildlife and active exploration through hiking and kayaking, the river cruises will offer a different perspective.

"Our river cruises will put more of an emphasis on Europe's rich history, culture and cuisine," he said.

Connect accommodates a maximum of 120 guests and features luxurious amenities, including an expansive wellness area, multiple dining options and a dramatic two-story amphitheater-style Forum for daily recaps. All cabins are positioned above water level with full-width floor-to-ceiling windows and can be combined into suites for families or groups.

The ship maintains an impressive crew-to-guest ratio of 1:2.2, with each voyage staffed by an expedition leader, historian, cultural expert, certified photography instructor and either a National Geographic destination expert or photographer. This team will enrich the experience through presentations and casual conversations.

Daily activities include excursions to museums, wineries, gardens and castles, with options for independent exploration using the ship's bicycles. Culinary experiences feature regional dishes and local ingredients, with all food, wine and beer included. Special experiences include visiting St. Hildegard Abbey to taste Riesling served by resident nuns, exclusive access to Rheinstein Castle with champagne reception and private after-hours museum visits.

Guests can extend their journeys with four new two-day extensions, including options in Cologne and Bonn, Switzerland's alpine regions, Amsterdam or Brussels and Bruges, providing additional opportunities to explore Europe's diverse offerings.
