Air Canada has announced a comprehensive upgrade program for its regional fleet that will enhance passenger comfort and convenience across 25 De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation LP under the Air Canada Express banner.

The initiative represents a significant investment in the airline's regional operations, featuring a complete cabin redesign with new seating, refreshed interiors and the introduction of onboard Fast, Free Wi-Fi on select aircraft initially operating from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. This marks an industry first for the Dash 8-400 aircraft type.

"Air Canada Express is at the heart of how we serve Canadian communities," said Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President & Chief Operations Officer at Air Canada. "This innovative project reflects the pride we take in serving customers with care and class. By bringing many of the design details and comforts of our largest jets to the Canadian-made Dash 8-400, even our shortest flights can feel special."

The upgrade program will roll out in phases through 2026, beginning with Wi-Fi installation at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in October. Air Canada will become the first airline globally to offer Fast, Free Wi-Fi on the De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft type, providing gate-to-gate connectivity for passengers traveling between Toronto's city airport and Montreal or Ottawa.

The seating upgrade involves installing next-generation ergonomic seats from Expliseat across all 25 aircraft. Each plane will maintain its 78-seat configuration with unchanged pitch, but passengers will benefit from well-padded seats featuring new branding, seatback device holders for tablets and phones, and table trays. The seating program is expected to complete by mid-2026.

Cabin interiors will also receive a comprehensive redesign to align with Air Canada's mainline aircraft standards. The new design incorporates colors, textures and tones inspired by Canada's natural environment, reinforcing the airline's identity as the nation's flag carrier.

Doug Clarke, President of Jazz, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the shared commitment to safety, operational excellence and exceptional customer service. The upgrades complement existing amenities at Billy Bishop, including frequent departures, complimentary premium snacks, beverages and exclusive lounge access for eligible customers.
