The cooler temperatures are beginning to move in all around Europe. However, that doesn't mean the entire continent is doomed for cold weather.
The Canary Islands are a little slice of paradise offering a beach fix in the winter months.
The most densely populated of the islands is Gran Canaria, and there is a lot to keep you busy during a visit to this tropical area.
First and foremost, enjoying the beaches of the island are a must. One beach, in particular, is called Playa del Inglés.
Occidental Margaritas, a Barceló hotel, has a great location right in this area. It's a perfect resort for families, boasting a large park with gardens and swimming pools.

After you've had enough beach, the Vegueta area has the colonial architecture that's worth a look. The old monuments and narrow streets are a photographer's dream.
The food here is also something to take note of. Fill your belly with traditional wrinkly potatoes and mojo sauce or toasted cereal flour, both local favorites.
