Travel data platform OAG has identified the biggest tech innovations shaping travel right now, and Air Canada warranted a special mention. OAG highlighted Air Canada as one of the first global airlines (and the only non-U.S. airline) to integrate with Apple Wallet’s new “travel hub” technology.

Apple Wallet has upgraded from being a repository for simple boarding pass QR codes. Now, with the travel hub that OAG calls a “personal control tower for your entire air travel journey,” travellers will have:

  • Live flight updates that appear directly on the lock screen.
  • One-tap shortcuts to share flight status with friends, open Apple Maps for terminal directions, or access “Find My” to track checked bags.
  • Integrated terminal maps that visualize gate locations without switching between apps.

These “intelligent boarding passes” will no doubt make things easier for travellers by centralizing a lot of their information. As OAG points out, it marks a shift for Air Canada and for airlines adopting the technology, from housing the information in the airline’s own app, to relying on Apple for the platform. The hope is that airlines (and their customers) will be saved from clunky independent apps by trading in for Apple’s more elegant, scalable solutions.

Tech news site iphone in Canada reports that these updates arrive with the launch of iOS 26, macOS Tahoe, and other software versions this fall.
