Viking has taken delivery of its newest river ship, the 190-guest Viking Rota, which will sail itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
The Viking Rota joins the cruise line’s growing fleet of Viking Longships and will debut on some of Viking’s most popular European river itineraries, including the Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Danube Waltz, Tulips & Windmills, Christmas on the Rhine and Danube Christmas Delights.
“The delivery of the Viking Rota marks another milestone for our award-winning river fleet,” says Leah Talactac, president and chief executive officer of Viking. “As interest in river travel continues to grow, we remain focused on creating more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”
The Viking Rota accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms and features Viking’s signature Scandinavian-inspired design. The ship includes the line’s patented square bow, which creates enough space for three full decks, as well as an indoor-outdoor Aquavit Terrace.
The ship also features Viking’s asymmetric corridor layout, which allows the line to offer two-room suites.
The Viking Rota is the latest addition to Viking’s broader fleet expansion. Based on its current orderbook, the company expects to take delivery of 18 more river ships by 2028, bringing its river fleet to 114 vessels.
Viking also expects to add 11 ocean ships by 2032 and two expedition ships by 2031. With those additions, the company expects to operate 28 ocean and expedition ships by 2032. The new ships are part of Viking’s long-term growth strategy as the company continues to expand its offerings in river, ocean and expedition travel.
