Following an explosion Monday, Nov. 10, 2025 in New Delhi, Canadian officials updated the travel advisory for Canadians in or travelling to India. The risk level remains at yellow/exercise a high degree of caution.

A car exploded near a metro station close to the Red Fort, a popular tourist attraction. Al Jazeera reported at least 13 people were killed and 20 injured.

Canadian Global Affairs had already issued regional advisories due to terrorist threats, including parts of India where it advises visitors to avoid all non-essential travel or to completely avoid all travel.

The updated advice from Ottawa notes that the Government of India placed several states on high alert, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra following the explosion.

Current advice for Canadians in the area is to:

  • Monitor local media to stay informed of the evolving situation.
  • Follow the advice from local authorities.
  • Avoid popular tourist areas.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.

As always, it is a good idea for Canadians travelling abroad to register with the government so they can be contacted and accounted for if necessary. In an emergency, they can reach out to the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi or the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa.
