Canadians Set to Travel to United States Less During President Trump's Second Term

A study released Jan. 17, 2025 indicates Canadians are planning to travel Stateside less during the next year because of the Trump presidency. The research, conducted by Narrative Research, surveyed 1,231 Canadians in December, 2025. Data were weighted based on the 2021 Census, by gender, age and region to reflect actual population distribution.

The findings indicate that while almost half of the respondents (45%) anticipate travelling to the U.S. the same amount as previous to the 2024 election, 29% are planning to travel across the border less. Only 8% indicated they would be going to the U.S. more often. 

Age and gender were factors in whether respondents would be visiting our neighbour, with 52% of men saying their travel habits would remain unchanged, compared to 33% of women who said they will be cutting back on transborder trips. 37% of Canadians older than 55 said they will travel less, the same percentage of Atlantic Canadians who indicated they will also travel less in the land of red, white and blue over the coming year.
