Marriott International is expanding its partnership with Canadian nonprofit La Tablée des Chefs to help combat food insecurity across the country.

Together, the organizations aim to distribute 500,000 portions of ready-to-cook soup to communities in need by the end of 2025.

The initiative builds on a program launched in 2023, where more than 75 Marriott hotels across nine provinces donated surplus food, resulting in over 127,000 meals for local communities.

According to a press release, through the new soup initiative, Marriott teams will assemble and distribute dry soup packets to food banks and shelters. So far, 45,000 packets have already been distributed.

“At Marriott International, we believe in the power of hospitality to make a meaningful difference,” said Paul Cahill, Chief Operations Officer, Canada.

“Our expanded partnership with La Tablée des Chefs... reflects our commitment to reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity.”

Jean-François Archambault, founder and general director of La Tablée des Chefs, added: “Whether through our Food Recovery program or by producing and distributing dry soup to families in need, [Marriott] demonstrates a solidarity and generosity that resonates across the country.”

La Tablée des Chefs has helped redistribute more than 21 million portions of surplus food since 2002, with over 25% of Canadians currently facing food insecurity.
