There’ll be a new record-smashing roller coaster debuting at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey beginning next spring, called Bakunawa, named after the mythological Philippine moon-eating sea serpent.

According to local New Jersey news station News12 New Jersey, the roller coaster, once called “Project Purple,” will be located in the park’s Boardwalk area, standing 382 feet tall and reaching speeds of 100 mph when it opens in spring 2027.

Six Flags officials told the news station it’ll break six world records when it begins operations: it’ll be the world’s fastest spinning coaster, the world’s tallest spinning coaster, the world’s fastest inversion, at 80 mph, the world’s longest stall inversion, the world’s first floorless spinning coaster and the world’s first upside-down launch.

Bakunawa will be completely floorless with two 20-person passenger trains that spin and rotate independently throughout the 3,163-foot course. The entire experience, which includes three launches, including one that’s completely inverted, will be two minutes and 17 seconds long.

“It’s about planting our flag in the ground and saying, we’re here, we’re back and we’re ready to play. We’re bringing dynamic thrills to the area, to the tri-state, to the country and to the world,” said Ryan Eldredge, director of sales and marketing, to News 12 New Jersey.

According to People, it ranks among the top five tallest roller coasters in the world. Travelers can purchase a 2027 Gold Season Pass to be one of the first to ride the roller coaster.

It replaces the Kingda Ka coaster, which has since been demolished.
