A study released Jan. 8, 2025 by Skyscanner of 1,000 Canadian adults conducted in Nov. 2024 revealed, as a surprise to exactly no one, that cost is one of the main considerations when planning a trip. Fully 95 per cent of respondents ranked it as an important factor in trip-planning.
To help clients get the most for their bucks, knowing where they can get to for a relatively reasonable rate can be a big help. Skyscanner set to compiling the top ten cost effective destinations, ranking them according to the average price of a return plane fare in economy. To determine the least expensive destinations from Canadian airports, Skyscanner analyzed millions of flight bookings and calculated the median return economy seat price for all departure cities within the market. They looked at all departure and return dates in 2025, based on data available as of November 2024, including both direct and connecting flights.
Travel expert Jennifer Weatherhead Harrington notes, “The Cost-Effective Destinations list is
particularly useful for anyone trying to plan on a budget, as it highlights real, data-driven options.
These tools make travel planning more accessible and enjoyable, encouraging people to spend less
time worrying about decisions and more time looking forward to their trips.”
The findings of the study are:
10. Madrid, Spain. Averaging $676.60 flights, the sunny Spanish capital invites visitors to visit its cultural treasures.
