A new midweek flight is giving Canadians a reason to rethink the classic Saturday-to-Saturday Caribbean getaway.

Travel between Canada and Antigua and Barbuda is getting a boost this summer, as WestJet brings back its Wednesday nonstop service from Toronto Pearson International Airport to V.C. Bird International Airport for July and August.

The added frequency builds on WestJet’s existing year-round Sunday route, while Air Canada continues to operate its own Sunday nonstop service on the same corridor.

“Antigua and Barbuda's calendar is full of relaxed, family-friendly events all year long, and this is especially true in the summer with our Antigua Carnival, the Urlings Seafood Festival, ANUCON, and CPL T20 Cricket,” said Tameka Wharton.

“Having a midweek flight gives visitors more flexibility for spontaneous summer getaways, like pink sand spotting in Barbuda, while also allowing travellers to take advantage of non-peak season rates. Visit to unpack your perfect Christmas in July.”

The added lift comes as Antigua leans into a busy summer events calendar.

Antigua Carnival runs from July 25 to August 4, bringing parades, music and street celebrations across the island. Days later, the Urlings Seafood Festival on August 9 spotlights local fishing traditions and coastal cuisine.

There’s also ANUCON on August 16, a niche but growing event centred on gaming, anime and cosplay, and matches from the Caribbean Premier League T20 Cricket, which run through late summer with a mix of sport and festival energy.

Beyond Antigua itself, the destination continues to position as a jumping-off point for wider Caribbean travel, with onward connections to neighbouring islands.

The Wednesday service will run once weekly through July and August, giving Canadian travellers an additional option during a peak period that’s increasingly defined not just by sun demand, but by events.
