Dominica is emerging as one of the Caribbean’s fastest-growing destinations, according to top island officials. The destination’s growth was spotlighted at a high-level presentation at the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s Marketplace conference in May.

“Dominica is entering one of the most transformative periods in its tourism development,” said Marva Williams, director of tourism and CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority. “We are seeing strong visitor growth, major investment in national infrastructure, and increasing global interest in destinations centered on authenticity, wellness, sustainability, and meaningful experiences. Dominica is well-positioned within that global shift.”

Williams reported that total visitor arrivals increased by an average of 15% in 2025, rising from 432,989 in 2024 to 496,635, driven by continued growth in both overnight, land-based and cruise arrivals.

Overnight arrivals increased by 19% to 99,846 visitors in 2025, surpassing 2019 levels, while first quarter overnight arrivals for 2026 recorded an additional 10% increase over the same period last year.

Cruise tourism also continues to expand, with Dominica hosting 409,761 cruise visitors between October 2025 and April 2026, representing a 23% increase over the previous cruise season and the island’s strongest cruise performance since the 2010/2011 season.

Williams also highlighted Dominica’s expanded destination marketing efforts, including the successful “Nature of Love” campaign, which positions Dominica as a destination for romance, wellness, adventure and meaningful connection through nature-based travel experiences.

The presentation also highlighted several transformative projects reshaping Dominica’s tourism landscape.

Among the island’s most significant developments is Dominica’s international airport project, currently under construction and scheduled for completion in time for the winter 2027 season. The airport will feature a 2,850-meter runway capable of accommodating narrow- and wide-body aircraft, significantly improving long-haul connectivity and future access from major international markets.

In the interim, Dominica has continued strengthening airlift through Douglas-Charles Airport, including expanded service from Miami and Newark, alongside enhanced regional connectivity through Contour Airlines’ nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Additional infrastructure developments include the Dominica Cable Car project, expected to become the world’s longest mono cable car system upon completion in October 2026, and the island’s geothermal energy project, which positions Dominica among the Caribbean’s leaders in renewable energy and climate resilience.

Williams also highlighted continued expansion across Dominica’s hospitality, marine, and wellness tourism sectors, including a new full-service marina, enhanced wellness offerings, and the establishment of the world’s first Sperm Whale Reserve, designed to protect one of the region’s most significant resident sperm whale populations while supporting sustainable marine tourism and scientific research.

Across the island, resorts and boutique properties continue evolving to meet growing traveler demand for wellness, culinary, and experiential travel. Recent developments include expanded wellness programming at InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa, immersive culinary experiences at Secret Bay, and sustainability-focused offerings at Sea Cliff Eco Cottages and Ocean Oasis Hotel.

Beyond infrastructure and tourism growth, Dominica remains focused on sustainable development, climate resilience, and community-centered tourism experiences that preserve the island’s natural environment, cultural identity, and quality of life for future generations, said officials.
