Travellers heading to Cuba this summer will need to apply for an electronic visa. Starting July 1, 2025, only the new e-visas will be accepted for visitors entering Cuba.

According to the Government of Canada's Cuba travel advisory page, those travelling directly from Canada have the visa included with their ticket. Anyone travelling via a third country (including having a layover in a third country) will need to apply online in advance of their trip.

The form is available to be filled out by travellers within seven days of departure.

Travel to Cuba from Canada has taken a hit in the last several months, with tourists skittish about wide-spread power outages and aging infrastructure, although resorts are mainly exempted from the worst of it thanks to the use of generators and advance planning in the tourism industry for exigent circumstances.

Cuba has responded to the softened demand from Canada and Europe by launching marketing aimed at the massive Chinese market, with whom it shares a Communist political system.
