Canadian Visits to Cancun and Riviera Maya Booming

According to numbers from Municipal Tourism in Cancun, the increase of Canadian visitors has outpaced that of American tourists. So far in 2025, Canadian tourism is up by seven percent over last year, reports the Riviera Maya News. Visitors from the U.S. are up 2.5 percent. 

Cancun mayor Ana Paty Peralta credits “strategic tourism promotions” for the significant increase in the arrival of international visitors.

“Ongoing work is being done to diversify tourism, which includes sporting events, health, romance, conventions, academic and business activities, among others,” Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo, Municipal Tourism Secretariat told Riviera Maya News. 

The emphasis on romance, in particular weddings, has been paying off for the region. 75 percent of the weddings held in Mexico are in Cancun and Riviera Maya, says Zulueta, which is approximately 25,000 tourist weddings.
