Officially founded in October 1275 when it received its municipal charter from Count Florent V of Holland, Amsterdam marks a historic milestone by celebrating its 750th anniversary throughout 2025.
To mark the occasion, the city has planned a packed programme of festivities, blending culture, history and innovation. From January to October, residents and visitors alike will be able to experience a series of events that pay tribute to the Dutch capital’s heritage while looking to its future. Here are some highlights from Bunk Amsterdam ’s curated selections.
24 Hours in Amsterdam
Throughout the year, this series of events highlights different neighbourhoods in Amsterdam, offering visitors an immersion into local life. Theatres, museums, shops and community centres will open their doors for exhibitions, workshops and guided tours. Upcoming editions include: the Centre (March 22), Zuidoost (April 12), Weesp (May 17), Noord (September 13) and Zuid (October 11).
Festival of the future
From June 12-21, the Ten Days of Future (ToekomstTiendaagse) will reflect on the future of Amsterdam through exhibitions, open days and lectures. The festival will culminate on June 21, the longest day of the year, with a major event: the transformation of the A10 ring road into a huge urban stage, hosting music, dance and artistic performances.
SAIL Amsterdam 2025
From Aug. 20-24, the tenth edition of SAIL Amsterdam will coincide with the city's anniversary. This spectacular maritime event will bring together an impressive fleet of tall ships and other heritage vessels. The public will be able to visit the boats, watch demonstrations and participate in entertainment on the quays.
The King's Day
On April 27, the Dutch national holiday will take on a special dimension in Amsterdam. Known as the largest street party in Europe, the city will be decked out in orange and will vibrate to the rhythm of open-air concerts, flea markets and festivities on the canals.
Queer Pride and Pride Amsterdam
From July 26 to Aug. 3, Amsterdam will host one of the largest 2SLGBTQI+ festivals in the world. Between parties, film screenings, sporting events and debates, the city will be buzzing with excitement. One of the most anticipated moments will be the Canal Parade, where decorated boats will sail through the canals.
Amsterdam Electronic Music Festival
From October 22nd to 26th, Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) will bring together over 2,500 electronic music artists in hundreds of venues across the city. In parallel, the festival will feature a major conference bringing together DJs, producers and music industry professionals.
