PONANT to Debut New Northern Caribbean Itinerary in 2028

PONANT EXPLORATIONS plans to launch a new Caribbean itinerary for 2028.

The company will have four departures of the expedition-style experience, with travelers sailing from La Romana in the Dominican Republic to Nassau in the Bahamas via Turks and Caicos.

Travelers will have a rare chance to visit Monte Cristi in the Dominican Republic, as PONANT is expected to be the first brand to call at the destination.

Operating in January and February 2028, the eight-day “Jewels of the Northern Caribbean” itinerary will visit three countries aboard Le Champlain.

The itinerary is the brainchild of José Sarica, research and development expedition experience director for the company, who conducted extensive field scouting and worked closely with local communities across the northern Caribbean to uncover the region’s hidden gems. 

Highlights include: 

• Discovering a diverse range of natural environments, including pristine beaches, sandbanks, mangroves, coral reefs, caves and botanical gardens. 
• Exploring the region's rich history, from Indigenous cultures and colonial heritage to the golden age of piracy. 
• An exclusive stop in Monte Cristi, a town nestled within the Dominican Republic's protected national park. 
• Exploring the world's third-largest barrier reef in the Turks and Caicos Islands. 
• Visiting Staniel Cay in the Bahamas, with the opportunity to swim with the island's famous wild pigs and experience its storied pirate history.
