One international carrier is taking the booming premium air travel trend to new heights.
British Airways has announced plans to debut the world’s largest business class cabin onboard its retrofitted Airbus A380 double-decker jets.
The entire upper deck of the refurbished aircraft will be one sweeping business class, featuring 106 of the airline’s Club Suite seats.
The massive cabin will be divided into four “distinct zones,” British Airways says.
The upper deck will “offer a more intimate feel, complemented by dedicated dwell areas, Club Kitchens and reimagined galley spaces that encourage customers to move freely and relax throughout the flight,” according to the airline.
The plush Club Suite seats will feature their usual lie-flat beds and privacy doors. But they’ll also feature upgrades like improved storage and functionality, as well as an enhanced color palette of blue, red, and cream accents.
In addition to the new business class cabin, British Airways is totally overhauling every cabin and seat across its A380 fleet.
The new first class cabin will be at the front of the lower deck with 12 spacious suites with 60-inch privacy walls, a 6’7” lie-flat bed, an ottoman to accommodate a dining companion, as well as a personal wardrobe and in-suite mini bar.
World Traveller Plus, the carrier’s premium economy product, will feature redesigned seats that are wider along with larger entertainment screens, and a roomier 2-4-2 layout.
Economy class, or World Traveller, will also get upgrades like wider seats and larger screens, plus refreshed bedding.
But it’s not just the aircraft seats that are getting a revamp. Every part of the A380 plane will be refreshed, even the galleys and stairways, for a totally new feel on board.
The A380 fleet’s nose-to-tail overhaul is one of the biggest retrofitting projects in airline history.
“This is a major milestone for British Airways and the future of our A380 fleet, marking one of the most significant transformations we’ve ever undertaken on any aircraft,” said British Airways CEO Sean Doyle.
The airline says that the first retrofitted A380 plane is set to debut in the coming months.
