Travelers jetting around Europe are getting access to one of the most in-demand in-flight amenities: free, high-speed Wi-Fi.
Carriers in the region, like Air France and Scandinavian Airlines, have been equipping their planes with Starlink’s ultra-fast, low latency connectivity at a steady clip in recent months.
The latest Euro carrier to launch Starlink access on board is Zurich-based Swiss Airlines.
The carrier, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, rolled out its very first Airbus A320neo jet outfitted with Starlink capability on September 28.
On Monday, that jet, which is registered HB-JDM and named “Iseltwald,” will operate its first Starlink-equipped service as flight LX1852 from Zurich to Thessaloniki, Greece.
Swiss plans to soon equip three more Airbus A320 planes with Starlink service before eventually rollilng out the Wi-Fi across its entire fleet by the end of 2029.
Travelers with a Miles & More loyalty account and Travel ID users can access the Wi-Fi free of charge.
Starlink is revolutionizing in-flight entertainment across the airline industry, allowing travelers to stream movies, TV shows, and music, play games, edit documents, send emails, and more, the same way they can on the ground through all phases of flight.
Lufthansa Group plans to roll out Starlink across the 850 aircraft across all of its major airlines, which include carriers like Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines.
