Porter Airlines marked a milestone today with the launch of return flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Cancun, Mexico (CUN) — its first route operating outside of Canada and the U.S.
The new service signals Porter’s expansion into southern sun destinations, including Mexico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Florida, Arizona, and California.
“Today’s inaugural Cancun flight is the start of establishing a significant presence for Porter in southern vacation markets this winter,” said Kevin Jackson, president of Porter Airlines.
“Travellers who have long wanted the ability to fly with us to this region will now have multiple options across Mexico, the Caribbean and Costa Rica. For 19 years, we have challenged what it means to fly economy and reset expectations in this category. Our award-winning service goes beyond offering free beer and wine; it’s about care and genuine hospitality. With Porter, your vacation begins the minute you decide to fly with us.”
The Cancun route is operated with Porter’s 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, featuring a two-by-two configuration with no middle seats.
The Toronto–Cancun schedule begins with several weekly flights, increasing to daily service in December and eventually reaching up to twice-daily service by January.
Non-stop flights to Cancun will also begin from Hamilton and Ottawa on December 17.
