Etihad Airways, the co-flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, is offering international passengers a unique perk: free travel insurance. The move, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) is designed to help reduce some of the apprehension international visitors may feel about travelling in the Middle East.

“Global interest in Abu Dhabi continues to grow, reflecting the destination’s unparalleled year-round cultural, tourism and entertainment offering,” says His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi. “This initiative ensures we meet that demand with an exceptional, end-to-end visitor experience.”

Running from July through December of this year, the coverage will be automatically applied for passengers travelling to or through Abu Dhabi on an Etihad flight. It will only apply to those who purchased a ticket outside of the UAE and whose point of origin flight is from an international airport. Coverage will also be extended to those who are taking advantage of the Stopover Programme in Abu Dhabi, for up to 15 days.

“Giving comprehensive medical insurance with every eligible Etihad ticket means our guests can focus entirely on experiencing the extraordinary Emirati hospitality Abu Dhabi has to offer,” says Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways. “This is what it looks like when an airline and a destination truly invest in their visitors.”
