Delta Air Lines announced that the planned expansion of its
free in-flight Wi-Fi service will begin later in October across its
trans-Pacific routes.
The rollout of Delta Sync Wi-Fi service, presented by
T-Mobile, will expand progressively across routes over the following weeks. The
airline announced the plan on October 9 after receiving regulatory approval for
the expansion.
Adding T-Mobile Wi-Fi will bring the final major region of
the airline’s global network online, allowing passengers to stay connected on
flights across the Pacific. Travelers can use the service for activities such
as messaging, streaming, and working while in the air.
Delta currently has nearly 1,300 Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft,
representing more than 95 percent of its fleet. The airline has been expanding
its connectivity offerings across domestic and international routes as part of
a broader effort to improve the onboard passenger experience.
Once the trans-Pacific rollout is complete, Delta says it
will become the only global carrier in the United States to offer free Wi-Fi
across its worldwide network, spanning six continents.
Delta announced plans in March to install Amazon Leo Wi-Fi
across an initial 500 aircraft beginning in 2028, while competitors such as
United have been rolling out Starlink-equipped planes. Elon Musk criticized Delta CEO Ed Bastian over the decision,
predicting the airline would lose customers.
