The union representing Air Canada flight attendants will launch a strike vote on Monday, July 28, after conciliation talks with the airline failed to produce a tentative agreement.

In a message to members, the Air Canada Component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said that key issues remain unresolved, including pay, unpaid work, per diems, pension, work rules, and prone rest.

“Your Union has officially concluded the conciliation process with the assistance of federally appointed mediators. At this time we have not reached a tentative agreement to present to you, our membership,” the union wrote.

The union said it is committed to securing “nothing less than an industry-leading contract,” adding, “Our role as your Union is to negotiate a deal that you deserve, one that reflects your value, your work, and your sacrifices.”

In a bid to ramp up pressure, the union is calling on members to support a strong strike mandate. The vote will be conducted electronically and will run from July 28 through August 5. Membership information sessions will be held via Zoom, with details to be released Friday, July 25.

“This is your moment to be heard, to stand with your colleagues and harness our collective power,” the union said. “This is where our strength lies and this is how we will show the Company that we are united, serious, and will accept nothing less than the contract we deserve.”

The union concluded its message by stating, “We are united, focused, and committed to delivering the contract you’ve earned through your professionalism and dedication. No more diversions. Fair contract now.”
