Calgary International Airport (YYC) is turning to AI to help passengers find their way, providing answers to common questions without downloading an app.
The web-based tool, powered by indoor mapping company Mappedin, can answer questions in Canadian French or English, helping passengers navigate the terminal, check flight status, or find amenities.
“This launch deepens our long-standing innovation partnership with Mappedin and extends their mapping technology to include a real-time, generative AI solution,” said Bart Smith, GM Corporate Services & IT Business Partners at Calgary Airports.
Passengers can ask questions such as “Is my flight leaving on time?”, “How do I get to Gate A21?”, or “Where can I get coffee nearby?” The chatbot uses recent questions and the airport’s layout to provide location-aware responses.
According to a press release, the system combines AI with indoor mapping, multilingual support, and generative responses. Partnerships with Satisfi Labs and Mappedin allow the airport to offer consistent information across website, in-terminal displays, and even emerging technologies like holographic assistance.
“Airports face unprecedented passenger volume growth, and it is difficult to staff at levels that keep pace with the demand for real-time, personalized assistance,” said Yuval Kossovsky, Managing Director of Transportation at Mappedin
YYC’s AI chat is available now for free on the airport’s website at yyc.com
