Air Canada’s Aeroplan Member Donation Program marked its 20th anniversary this month.

To date, more than 1.8 billion Aeroplan points have been donated to Canadian charities since the program launched in 2006.

Approved charities collect Aeroplan points from members and redeem them for flights, hotel stays, car rentals, merchandise and other support tied to their operations and fundraising efforts.

According to Aeroplan, 1,554 charitable organizations have benefited from the program over the past two decades.

“Since 2006, Aeroplan Members have donated more than 1.8 billion points to 1,554 charitable organizations, helping to fund critical travel, essential goods, and community-building initiatives,” said Craig Landry, Executive Vice President & Chief Innovation Officer at Air Canada and President of Aeroplan.

“The scale of this impact speaks to the power of collective giving. As we celebrate two decades of the Aeroplan Member Donation Program, we remain committed to helping charities reach farther and do more.”

Today, more than 100 active charities participate in the program, alongside 11 corporate partners.

Three original partners from the program’s 2006 launch remain involved: the Air Canada Foundation, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders and the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Aeroplan highlighted the growth of its annual Points Matching Week campaigns, introduced in 2010. During these campaigns, Aeroplan matches up to 500,000 donated points, allowing members to double the impact of their contributions.

Since the initiative began, more than 350 million points have been donated during Points Matching Weeks.

Several matching campaigns are already scheduled for the remainder of 2026, including partnerships with War Child Canada, Indspire, Second Harvest and Rainbow Railroad.

Aeroplan said charities can use donated points for operational travel, accessing goods and services, or supporting fundraising activities through prizes and incentives.

The Air Canada Foundation, launched in 2012, also continues to redistribute Aeroplan points through its Hospital Transportation Program, supporting pediatric hospitals, Hope Air and the David Foster Foundation to help children travel for medical care away from home.
