5Continents recently hosted a South Africa familiarization (FAM) trip for a group of 10 travel advisors.
The program ran from Dec. 7 to 16, 2025, and focused on South Africa’s geography, accommodations and core travel experiences.
The itinerary began in Johannesburg, giving advisors exposure to the country’s primary international gateway and its role in most South African itineraries. From there, the group travelled to Shiduli Private Game Reserve, where advisors took part in guided game drives and learned how private reserves operate, including lodge styles, daily safari schedules and realistic client expectations for wildlife-focused travel.
Advisors then travelled along the Panorama Scenic Route, visiting key natural attractions while assessing how the region can be incorporated into a well-rounded itinerary. The trip continued to Cape Town, where participants experienced major highlights such as Table Mountain, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and the Cape Peninsula, while evaluating the city’s suitability for different traveller profiles.
The FAM concluded in the Cape Winelands, with time spent in Stellenbosch and visits to nearby wine regions, including the Franschhoek Wine Tram. Advisors explored how the Winelands can complement a Cape Town stay, particularly for clients looking to add a slower-paced extension to their trip.
By visiting multiple regions and accommodations, participants returned with a clearer understanding of how to structure South African itineraries and match experiences to client needs.
