Every new year brings a certain number of newly opened hotels and resorts, and this is especially true in popular tourist destinations throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. While some properties reopen to guests after a full renovation, others are thoughtfully built from the ground up. In either scenario, new hotel openings give travelers the chance to try out a travel experience hardly anyone else has.

Where are most of the new hotel openings taking place this year? There are quite a few new hotels and resorts opening throughout the country of Mexico, yet other popular spots for new properties in 2023 include the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. Plenty of other lesser-known Caribbean destinations will also see new hotels open in 2023, including Aruba, Barbados and Bonaire.

Dreams Flora Resort & Spa: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

With plans to open in February of 2023, Dreams Flora Resort & Spa will be the newest all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The property sits directly on the beach, and it will offer its own luxury spa, as well as a truly unlimited dining experience.

Several property features make the Dreams Flora Resort & Spa into a family-friendly paradise, including a lazy river and on-site waterpark. Plenty of rooms and suites are available to choose from, including swim-up suites and family rooms with separate sleeping space for adults.

Sam Lord's Castle Resort: Barbados

Sam Lord's Castle Resort is a newly reopened resort with a stunning location on the island of Barbados. The property itself sits on 72 acres and features a mile-long beachfront. The resort is also situated within a well-known castle with a legendary history, which makes it unique among other properties located across the island. There are 248 unique guest rooms at Sam Lord's Castle, including eight suites and nine Castle rooms. Due to the location of the property, it's ideally situated for activities like deep-sea fishing, coastal snorkeling, diving expeditions and boogie-boarding.

Sandals Dunn's River: Ochos Rios, Jamaica

Opening in May of 2023, Sandals Dunn's River will be the newest Sandals property to open its doors to guests after Sandals Curacao opened in 2022. This adults-only, all-inclusive paradise will offer everything you have come to expect from Sandals, including complimentary transfers to and from the airport, unlimited fine dining at 12 different restaurants, unlimited premium liquors and unlimited water sports.

Rooms and suites available at the property are as lavish as you would imagine, with many having private pools or an outdoor soaking tub.

Secrets Impression Isla Mujeres: Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Opening in March of 2023, Secrets Impression Isla Mujeres will offer a romantic luxury vibe for adults only. This all-inclusive property will offer luxury suites just steps away from the white sand beaches this island is known for, and it will feature unlimited dining and drinks at eight restaurants.

A range of roomy suites are bookable for guests, including options with oceanfront views and private pools. The impressive Presidential suite at this property comes in at more than 3,500 square feet and has a private swim-out pool.

Falcon's Resort by Meliá - All Suites Punta Cana: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Falcon's Resort by Meliá | All Suites Punta Cana is a new "resortainment" property that just opened its doors in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This all-inclusive resort offers luxury in a five-star setting, as well as world-class dining and a range of amenities you can't find elsewhere.

Visitors to the property will find an upscale spa, a dazzling beach and pool and room options suited to nearly any type of group. The new resort even offers swim-up rooms and family style suites with up to two bedrooms.

Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club: Tulum, Mexico

Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club is currently planning to open this fall, and it is allowing bookings starting on November 1, 2023 and beyond. This all-inclusive resort will also be for adults only with features like beach service, 24-hour room service and a daily refreshed mini-bar.

Available room options are also on the romantic side with swim-out access and private plunge pools available. Visitors can also rent a Secrets Beach Villa for 10 people that features 6,200 square feet of space and a private rooftop terrace with its own plunge pool.

Sanctuary Cap Cana, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive Resort: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Sanctuary Cap Cana, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive Resort is a luxury resort in the Dominican Republic that joined the Marriott Bonvoy hotel program in January of 2023. This adults-only all-inclusive property is situated along the white sand beaches the area is known for. There are five a la carte restaurants to choose from, as well as six bars, five unique pools and a nightlife destination located on the property.

Sanctuary Cap Cana has 324 different room types for discerning quests, including oceanfront suites and a honeymoon suite with a private pool.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya: Mexico

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya is currently slated to open in early 2023, and it will offer everything you would expect from this up-and-coming all-inclusive resort brand. That said, this new property is adults-only, and its offerings will cater to more mature tastes as a result. For example, the property comes with a beachfront Landshark Brewery and 13 luxury room types geared to couples.

The resort's Coral Reefer Suites will be especially impressive considering they come with 1,400 sq. ft. of signature outdoor living space, a private infinity pool, a grill and an outdoor pool table. Guests in all room types will also be able to order 24-hour room service when they don't want to go out.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort: Aruba

With current plans to open its doors during the first quarter of 2023, the Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort will be yet another hotel offering visitors the chance to enjoy this "Happy Island." The property's location on Eagle Beach makes it ideal for water lovers who visit Aruba but don't necessarily enjoy the hustle and bustle of nearby Palm Beach.

The hotel will feature 330 individual guest rooms and suites, two sparkling pools and a range of on-site dining options.

SHA México: Costa Mujeres, México

SHA México is a wellness-themed property that's set to open its doors to guests sometime in late 2023. Located on Isla Mujeres off the coast of Cancun, this resort aims to help its guests achieve their wellness goals through regular workouts, detoxing and rebalancing.

This property will be located directly on the white sand beaches of Isla Mujeres, and it will offer more than 1,000 treatments to choose from. With that in mind, SHA México is worth considering if you want to relax and become your best self.

Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort: Los Cabos, Mexico

Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort isn't exactly brand new, but it recently reopened its doors in 2023 after a major renovation and the completion of several important upgrades. This oceanfront property offers amazing views of the Sea of Cortez and the Baja desert, as well as on-site restaurants with fresh, gourmet dining options and artisan-butler service that ensures you get what you need when you need it. This Los Cabos property also offers a range of room options with an ocean view, and several types of suites have their own plunge pools.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye: Belize

Margaritaville Beach Resort Ambergris Caye will be the newest family-friendly resort on the island of Ambergris Caye when it begins accepting guests in early 2023. This Belize property will not be all-inclusive, but it will offer a range of on-site dining options and a location along one of the most beautiful beaches in the country of Belize.

Because the property aims to be family-friendly, room options available to guests will reflect that. As an example, visitors can choose from rooms and suites with up to two bedrooms that sleep up to five adults. Some room options also have their own kitchenette.

Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort: St. Thomas

Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort is a new boutique resort from Marriott that will open on the island of St. Thomas later this year. The property sits along a quarter-mile stretch of Morningstar Beach, and it will offer 94 guest rooms and four open-air restaurants and lounges.

Other property features to celebrate include an oceanfront infinity pool with a swim-up bar and an on-site health club. An upscale spa is also available at the resort.

Andaz Mexico City Condesa: Mexico City, Mexico

This brand new World of Hyatt property opened its doors in Mexico City, Mexico in January of 2023, and it offers incredible views of the Mexico City skyline from its striking outdoor terrace. The property even features a dog-friendly outdoor venue called the Wooftop Beer Garden and Canine Club, which lets travelers enjoy cold brews and fine foods with their furry friend in tow.

Several other dining venues can be discovered at the property, including a rooftop restaurant and a cafe.The Andaz Mexico City Condesa features 213 rooms and suites in total, including options with their own private outdoor terrace.

Montage Cay: The Abacos, Bahamas

Montage Cay is a new 53-acre private island resort that will open in the Bahamas in 2023. This luxury resort and residential community is less than one mile off the coast of Marsh Harbour, making it relatively easy to get to.

Room options abound at the property, with guests having the option to choose among 50 ocean-view, suite-style accommodations with plunge pools, outdoor rain showers and plenty of extra space for lounging. The luxurious Spa Montage will also offer guests a range of relaxing and invigorating treatments to choose from.

Cayo Levantado Resort: Cayo Levantado, Dominican Republic

When Cayo Levantado Resort begins accepting guests in June of 2023, lucky visitors will almost certainly be impressed with this brand new island escape. Cayo Levantado is an island in Samaná Bay, meaning visitors can enjoy a true "island experience" off the coast of the Dominican Republic. The property is also a five-star, all-inclusive resort, so visitors can enjoy unlimited food, drink and entertainment in a secluded environment you won't find with similar properties.

Cayo Levantado Resort offers 219 rooms to choose from, two huge pools, six restaurants and six unique bars. Guests will also find an on-site gym and a luxury spa.

Hotel San Fernando: Mexico City, Mexico

The Hotel San Fernando in Mexico City, Mexico plans to open to guests during spring of 2023, and it will wow visitors with its location across the street from Parque México. The boutique property will feature 18 rooms and suites, a lobby bar with a lounge and a guest-only rooftop hotel visitors can escape to for stunning city views and peace and quiet.

The hotels' lobby bar will offer light bites as well as craft cocktails made with unique recipes and diverse, local ingredients.

Golden Rock Dive & Nature Resort: St. Eustatius

St. Eustatius is an island you have never heard of that sits somewhere in the Caribbean between St. Kitts and Nevis and Anguilla. This tiny island doesn't have many hotels or resorts due to its small size, and it is partially made up of national park space and open land surrounding the peak of Mount Mazinga.

This tiny island will open its first and only upscale resort in early 2023, however. Called the Golden Rock Dive & Nature Resort, this unique property will offer just 58 suites across 40 acres of stunning gardens. Hotel features will include a signature seafood restaurant, two sparking pools (one with a pool bar), basketball and tennis courts and several jogging and walking paths.

Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort & Spa: Roatan, Honduras

The Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort & Spa is currently planning to open during the summer of 2023. When it does, it will feature 126 guest rooms, some of which will have one or two bedrooms.

The property's location in Honduras puts it next to one of the most diverse and beautiful coral reefs in the world, making it ideal for ocean exploration, snorkeling and other water activities. Hotel amenities guests will enjoy include a rooftop sky bar, a stunning outdoor pool, a lounge and several beach bars and a luxurious spa.

Belnem House Bonaire: Bonaire

In early 2023, the Caribbean island of Bonaire will see a new boutique resort begin accepting visitors. This property is located in the villa district of Belnem, making it relatively close to the island's capital city of Kralendijk. Upon opening, Belnem House Bonaire will feature 31 luxury suites, apartments and penthouses.

Major resort features planned for the property include a tropical courtyard and a community pool. Many suites will offer ocean views, and penthouse suites come with multiple bedrooms, full kitchens and plenty of extra space for storage.

Kimpton Hotel Virgilio: Mexico City, Mexico

The Kimpton Hotel Virgilio will become one of the newest boutique hotels in Mexico City, Mexico when it opens in summer of 2023. This smaller property will feature 48 guest rooms along with its own signature restaurant and rooftop bar. The Kimpton Hotel Virgilio will be located in the popular Polanco neighborhood in Mexico City, which is known for its many art galleries, boutiques and unique dining options.

Goldwynn Resort & Residences: Nassau, Bahamas

Goldwynn Resort & Residences will be the newest hotel in Nassau, Bahamas when it opens to guests in February 2023. This property is located along Cable Beach in Nassau, which is one of the most stunning in the area.

The beachfront boutique hotel will offer spacious accommodations with one, two or three bedrooms, as well as a kitchen or a kitchenette. A luxury spa and infinity pool are also available to guests.

Hilton Monterrey: Monterrey, Mexico

The 225-room Hilton Monterrey will open during the first quarter of 2023, and it will be located just north of the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountain range in Monterrey, Mexico. This Hilton Honors resort will be bookable with cash or Hilton Honors points, and it will feature a range of room and suite options geared to different traveling parties.

Hotel amenities include an expansive pool with a pool bar and terrace, a main restaurant serving international and Mexican cuisine and a lobby bar and lounge.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo del Sol: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

This brand-new Four Seasons property will open in the second half of 2023, and it is expected to be popular among luxury travelers when it begins welcoming guests. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo del Sol is located on a swimmable beach, and it will offer 94 rooms and 46 branded residences for guests to choose from.

Resort amenities worth mentioning include an on-site kids club, a luxurious spa, a private beach club and several high-end dining options.
